UK consumer spending picks up

According to a retail industry body, spending by consumers in the UK has improved in the three months to April, helped by the Brexit deadline extension and warmer weather.

A Barclaycard report also suggested supermarkets, pubs, restaurants and garden centres were the big winners, with spending on clothing, electronic stores and department stores all contracting.

The news is a welcome glimmer of positivity for those who are nervous about the impact of Brexit on the UK economy and their finances. Although there is still much uncertainty surrounding the next few months, it’s fantastic to see some positive news.
